Punting was interesting! Rather different from poling a narrowboat! Still
Nick and Susan got to relax and trail their hands in the water in the traditional fashion
- and Alan got all hot and sweaty. (Did you really want to know that?) |
Once we had said our goodbyes we set off - backwards (there's no room
to turn round) - towards our first lock of the Grand Voyage. Louse Lock from the
Oxford Canal on to the River Thames. Well named! |

Nick gets his locking muscles in trim. Actually, he won't need them for
quite a while. All the locks on the Thames are manned and automated. The hardest thing you
have to do is to hold a rope. |
They weren't kidding! If you look carefully you can just see Alan trying
not to get his hair caught in the underside of the bridge. This was the reason we could
not move sooner - with the river any higher, it is impossible to get the boat underneath. |
