Bugsworth Basin

(which the locals prefer to be called Buxworth!)

Lots of restoration has taken place here - it's a really interesting place. They're expecting lots of boats to visit so they've put a 48 hour restriction on mooring.

These are stop planks - the higher level is the main canal.

 

 

The only trouble is - it ain't open!!

And yet more stop planks to lower the level even further - apparently there was a breach just after they re-opened it with a rally of working boats and it hasn't been open since!!

but it's a fascinating place - we had no idea how big a complex it was - wharves and lime kilns in a maze of waterway.
