Heartbreak Hill
Coming from Harecastle Tunnel towards Middlewich you pass along a stretch of Trent and Mersey Canal known affectionately (!) as Heartbreak Hill. This is because of the many locks situated in ones and twos every half mile or so - just far enough apart to get back on to the boat between, but not far enough apart to make and drink a cup of coffee!! |
||
Most of the locks are in pairs - so that more boats can negotiate the hill at once.
|
However, in some places the second lock has been abandoned - creating a wonderful bottleneck when two boats are ascending or descending the locks together!! |

This is the Pink Church at Hassall Green. It looks even brighter in real life and has turquoise doors. Inside it is painted in slightly more tasteful colours - shades of green. Nick and Susan went to morning service there and were the congregation!! |
Just a nice boat |
