Macclesfield Canal |
A nice (!) right angled turn off the Trent and Mersey brings you to the Macc. (Remember - the boat is 62 feet long!)
Then you go OVER the T&M (from left to right in this picture) - this then totally destroys your sense of direction for a bit.
The Macc is full of pretty bridges.

The one below is a "turnover bridge" with both paths on the same face so that, when the towpath changed sides, the horses could cross over without the need to remove the towing rope. |
The other path comes down behind the bushes - you'll have to trust me! |

![]() Of course, some bridges are not quite so pretty!!! |
Macclesfield - a town of many mills (silk mostly in the old days) |
![]() Bollington - and we just had to feed those half starved ducks!! |
The views are just tremendous - on the right is White Nancy (you can just see her on top of the hill) We climbed up there believe it or not - see 5th October for pictures. |

And there's always work to be done - logs to saw for the stove and name painting to do . |
![]() |
Nick learns to wield the saw too... |
![]() ...finishing off with a karate chop!! |
![]() Sometimes the smell from the galley is just too tempting for a canine passer by!! |

So from Marple (left) at one end to Red Bull (approach right) at the other it was a VERY remarkable trip along the Macclesfield Canal. |
